Critical care discharge information strategies
Focus group study reference 08/H0711/110 and 101108/03
We would like to invite you to take part in a research study, exploring the type of information needed by patients and their families when they are discharged from intensive care or high dependency care areas back to a general ward.
Register your interest to participate
What is the Research about?
Discharge from critical care can be a very stressful time and effective information, delivered in an appropriate way is needed in order to support continued recovery. This research will try and find out what the best method for doing this is. It will ask for your views on:
- The most effective method of giving information to patients and their families when they are moved from intensive or high dependency care units to a general ward
- What information is needed at this time
- The benefits and limitations of any existing strategies
- The resource implications associated with developing and/or implementing any suggested information strategies
Who are the Researchers?
The lead researcher is an intensive care nurse and lecturer, undertaking this study as part of a PhD in nursing.
What will happen to me if I take part?
If you agree to take part, you will be asked to attend a group interview (called a focus group), with 6-8 others. This will be held at a location convenient to those participating. This interview will be audio-recorded. The information will then be used anonymously to identify the most important factors in developing information strategies for the future. No information that could identify you will be included in the final report or in any future publication.
Register your interest to take part
It is entirely up to you if you decide to participate and if you decide to take part and then change your mind, you are free to stop at any time without need for explanation.
If you have any further questions about this study please feel free to email Suzanne Bench, the study's lead with any questions you have.
